We spread out Tyler’s birthday trying to fit it into our busy lives. On his actually birthday we had something going on at Alexis’ school and Jeffrey’s school and I had Mutual, so we let him open his gifts the night before. I knew I could never make him wait until the night after.
On a different evening, we took Tyler’s birthday cake to a park with the Sauls and the Zollingers. He really wanted a pirate cake but he wanted to stick with his favorite color, blue. Alexis said, “it just looks like bones floating on water.” Jeffrey commented that the cross bones looked like dog bones. So Tyler feeling like Jeffrey had just offended me said, “Don’t worry mom, it doesn’t look like bones at all!” Thanks, I guess! =)
On yet another day Tyler wanted to share cupcakes with the neighbor kids so we knocked on all the doors and gathered as many kids as we could. We played Duck, Duck Goose and sang Happy Birthday to him. He loved it.
Then this weekend we headed to the beach for a Pirate Party!
At first, the kids took turns burying things (like rocks and sand toys) in the sand. They’d make a big X and have other kids dig it up.
While they were doing that, we hid gold coins and plastic necklaces in the sand and rocks. Then we passed out pirate eye patches and sent them to find the treasure with only one eye.
While they were digging in the sand, we found a real pirate treasure chest! I was surprised at how long the kids stuck with the digging. It took a while, but we eventually pulled it out of the sand.
Inside we found lots of old piratety things like an old sword, a wooden gun, a golden bowl, candle holders, tea pots, a vase, artifacts from other countries, and even a bag of jewels & gold-real treasure!! It was so exciting for all the kids.
After the little treasure hunters settled down, we roasted hot dogs and ate cake. Everyone had such a good time. It’s going to be a hard party to top!!
